Few playground structures draw a crowd like a well-designed rope climber. This four-pointed pyramid net invites tamariki aged 5–12 to test their strength, coordination, and confidence across a web of climbing routes that suit beginners and seasoned climbers alike. With capacity for 27 users at once, it delivers outstanding play value per square metre for busy schools and public reserves.
The net rises to 3.2 m and spans 4.74 m across its widest points, requiring a safety zone of 8.4 m x 8.4 m and a fall height clearance of 1.83 m. The four anchor points extend low and wide, drawing younger or less confident climbers in at ground level before routes converge upward toward the central mast.
Every component is engineered for longevity. The main support post is 139.8 mm powder-coated steel tubing. Climbing ropes are 20 mm diameter polyamide (nylon) with UV protection and fire retardant treatment, each reinforced with 144 galvanised steel strands. Ball knots are compressed aluminium, set with 667 kN of force. Turnbuckles are steel alloy rated to 390 kN. All fasteners are stainless steel.
Post shields — made from textile-reinforced flexible rubber — surround the mast at net connection points to eliminate entrapment risks. The result is a structure that meets NZS 5828 compliance requirements and aligns with EN 1176 and ASTM F-1487 standards.
This structure suits schools seeking a high-capacity active play centrepiece, and councils looking for a landmark feature in a public reserve or park environment.
