Tackling Rubber Waste: Making a Real Difference.
Transforming Waste into Playgrounds.
Rubber waste is a growing global issue, with tonnes of it ending up in landfills every year. By recycling rubber through Creo’s recycling program, we’re turning that waste into a valuable resource. Our rubber recycling program processes up to 15 tonnes of rubber waste per week, keeping 780 tonnes of rubber out of landfills annually—that’s 866 skip bins worth of rubber waste repurposed.
Our rubber recycling video shows how we transform old rubber into safe, eco-friendly playground surfaces that kids love.
Sourcing Sustainable Timber: A Greener Approach.
Durable, Chemical-Free, and Locally Sourced Timber Options.
We carefully select timber for its durability, sustainability, and suitability for playground equipment:
- Macrocarpa from South Canterbury is a hardwood with high resin content, making it long-lasting and visually appealing for playgrounds.
- Radiata Pine from Southland’s sustainable pine forests is chemically treated to meet the New Zealand building code. It’s a reliable, locally sourced option for those comfortable with treated timber.
- Robinia wood, sourced from fast-growing acacia forests in Hungary, is a sustainable hardwood that can be used in the ground without chemical treatment, offering a completely natural solution. Its naturally ‘wobbly’ appearance adds whimsical charm, bringing a playful, unique character to your playground.
Local Manufacturing: Lowering Environmental Impact.
Supporting New Zealand’s Economy and Reducing Emissions.
All of our Creo designed playground equipment is crafted at our Oamaru-based workshop, which helps reduce transportation emissions and shortens delivery times. By focusing on local production, we’re able to deliver custom playground solutions that reflect community values and have a lower carbon footprint.

Case Study: CPlay Destination Playground.
A Community-Driven Project Making an Environmental Impact.
The CPlay Destination Playground in Timaru is a prime example of how a community’s commitment to sustainability can lead to lasting positive change. In partnership with Creo and the local council, the community helped recycle nearly 30 years of old rubber surfacing, turning it into a vibrant, award-winning playground. This project not only brought a creative play space to life but also made a significant environmental impact.
